Well done Campbells Creek!
A big thank you to all our community groups who work tirelessly to make Campbells Creek wonderful. The Mount Alexander Shire Community Grants were announced this week (click here for details), and there are some great outcomes for our community:
- The community garden–to be established in the Campbells Creek Community Centre grounds–is slowly getting closer to being a reality with a grant for Campbells Creek Community Garden: Landscape Design Plan. Thanks Anitra and the community gardens group for all your hard work on this over the last two years.
- Thanks to Pam Harris’ work on our local history, and the successful grant Campbells Creek 19th Century Heritage (A brochure), we can look forward to a professionally designed local history brochure that will help to promote our often overlooked history–dating back to the gold rush along the creek in the 1850s–to residents and tourists alike.
- Friends of Campbells Creek, who have been doing amazing work along the creek for many years now, have also received a grant for Honeycomb Bushland Reserve rehabilitation which will continue to improve parcels of public land in our town. Thank you to David, Ian, and everyone else involved. We really appreciate what you do for our creek.
- Finally, thanks again to Friends of Campbells Creek, and support from Campbells Creek Community Inc. and Campbells Creek Primary school for continuing to push for closing “the gap” in the walking and cycling trail connecting us to Castlemaine. Council has put aside $63,000 towards this in the recently released draft budget which is now open for public comment. I encourage community members to write to council thanking them for putting this high on their agenda.
What a great community we have. Go us!
